South Yarra Apartments

< back

These apartments are located in South Yarra atop one of the few hills in Melbourne’s inner suburbs. the local topography allows this sloping site to achieve expansive elevated views towards the city skyline, sporting precinct, the Yarra River and Richmond. the potential of the site is maximised through the implementation of unorthodox planning concept of the project which allows 16 of the 20 apartments to capture impressive city views.

Orientation of living areas towards the view and the Northern sun is enhanced through the application of a folded Western facade which responds to the internal apartment planning. A series of shelf elements integrated into this facade negate overlooking concerns into neighbouring backyards while providing shading and creating a highly articulated backdrop to the three neighbouring heritage listed dwellings on Punt Road. The two upper floors of the project are stepped back in order to reduce the visual bulk of the development and create a series of large landscaped rooftop terraces for the private use of the three penthouse apartments.

Vertical circulation is provided in the form of a feature external staircase which allows for the cross-flow ventilation of adjacent apartments. This project is a highly site responsive development. It responds to the scale of local built form while maximising the yield of a small residential site.
